Hello and thanks for visiting The Healthy Kitchen Shop! The first thing you need to know is that when it comes to healthy eating I’m no purist – not by a long shot! I was raised on good ole southern cooking in the blissfully ignorant days when a meal wasn’t complete without fried something (anything!), cornbread, and a decadent dessert!
I’m also a lifelong resident of the state with the most overweight population in the country. That’s because we may not do anything else well, but boy do we know how to cook!
However, even I am seeing the light and trying to do much better. The sad thing is that while we’ve gotten away from so many bad things like fried foods, we’re discovering how badly the food industry is contaminating foods that were once so nutritious.
The good news is that more and more people are becoming aware of exactly what is in food these days. They want to prepare food that isn’t full of preservatives and pesticides and all the other crazy contaminants in “store bought” food.
As a mother of two grown children and grandmother of 5, I’m looking for ways to help all of us cook “cleaner” food. Like most everyone else, I’m a very busy person with a full time job, so time is a factor. I also don’t have any illusions that I will ever completely give up sugar and a few other foods that are definitely not healthy.
But what I can do is make an effort to change the things I can change and aim for eating healthier most of the time. That’s the purpose of this website. My reviews involve extensive research, and hopefully that will save you a lot of time when you’re trying to decide whether a particular product is right for you.
My goal is to improve my eating habits without having to change my entire lifestyle. I hope you’ll join me, and I sincerely hope that the reviews and information on this site will help you along your journey to putting better food on your table!
