The SousVide Supreme Vacuum Sealer takes up much less room than similar models. That might make it perfect if you have a tiny kitchen, but what you save in space you may sacrifice in features.
This model is a no-frills channel vacuum sealer designed for packaging dry or moist foods for your sous vide oven or immersion circulator. It’s also useful for keeping foods fresh longer in freezer, refrigerator or pantry storage, and for sealing household items in water-tight pouches.
Though it costs the same as similar models by other manufacturers, it doesn’t have any extra features like an accessory port, or even a bag cutter. If you don’t mind that, it does have a simple control panel that’s easy to use.

Operation of the SousVide Supreme Vacuum Sealer is simple to understand. The Gentle speed setting allows you to package delicate foods without crushing or over compressing them. The Seal Only button is used when creating pouches from bag rolls, or any other time you want only a seal with no vacuum.
The “moist” setting means exactly that – not pure liquid, just moist. It’s designed for foods with a limited amount of liquid content. That includes the natural juices from raw meats, fish, and poultry, or small amounts of liquid marinades.
Starting the unit requires that you apply firm pressure to both sides of the lid until you hear it click. That click means the lid is locked, and then the vacuum pump will engage. What you can’t see in the above photo is that there is a seal light just below the Cancel button. When the unit finishes sealing, that light will go out, and you then click Release to open the lid and remove your sealed pouch.
The seal bar is elevated to help prevent any liquid from interfering with getting a tight seal, and there is a built-in tray to catch any drippings that do get through. Cleaning is not quite as convenient with this model because the drip tray is not removable.
Soups and other very liquid foods don’t work well in any channel vacuum sealer, including this one, unless you freeze them first. Otherwise this unit works best when you season with dry rubs. Liquid marinades may work if you don’t overdo it, and you can also watch the progress and hit the Seal button before any liquid is sucked into the machine.
SousVide does offer an alternate for packaging pure liquid foods. See the zipper bags under Bags & Bag Rolls below.
This unit has one replaceable part, which is the foam gasket that secures the pouch placement during the sealing process. Under normal use the gasket should last from 2 to 4 years, but if it wears out, a new one will only cost you about $5.00. (The manufacturer defines “normal use” as up to 5 times a day.)(Back to Top)

Bags & Bag Rolls
SousVide brand bags and bag rolls are designed specifically for sous vide cooking. They are free of BPA, lead and phthalates, and they are designed to tolerate high temperatures. Bags are available in two sizes:
- SousVide Supreme Vacuum Seal Cooking Pouches, Small, SVV-00302 (quart size)
- SousVide Supreme Vacuum Seal Cooking Pouches, Large, SVV-00303 (gallon size)
Pint size bags are also available in other brands.
If you prefer to cut your own, see the Sous Vide Supreme Vacuum Roll Pouches, 2 Rolls Per Box. This 2-roll box should make about 40 large 10″ x 11″ pouches, or close to 60 small 7″ x 11″ pouches.
For pure liquid foods such as soups and sauces, you may be interested in the SousVide Supreme Zip Cooking Pouches. They are not for use with your vacuum sealer, but you can fill a bag, leave it open and lower it into your water bath to force out air, and then when the zip closure is level with the water surface you close it. This removes the air so your pouch will stay submerged.
These are sturdy, BPA-free, food grade pouches that are safe for cooking at high temperatures. Uses include sous vide cooking of soups, sauces, stews, custards, foods infused with alcohol, or any other foods that contain lots of natural liquids or marinade.
There are no optional accessories available for this model. It does not have an accessory port and is not designed for sealing canisters or other external containers.

Unfortunately there is very little customer feedback available on this model. The average rating is quite low, but keep in mind that this number is based on a total of only about 30 reviews.
A couple of owners have reported that this model does not function well at high altitudes (over 5,000′). It will work but may not automatically detect when to stop vacuuming and start sealing, so you have to manually push the seal button yourself.
Others wrote to say that the unit either malfunctioned early on or quit working altogether. Some of those still rated it high because they contacted customer service, who quickly responded with either advice, repair or a replacement.
As always, there are also those folks who had a problem and wrote a bad review without bothering to first ask the company to honor its warranty. In every such case I found, the manufacturer responded to the online review by requesting that the customer contact them for a resolution.
To me, the fact that this manufacturer is reading all those online reviews and responding to the complaints speaks well of them. SousVide is at least trying to find any dissatisfied customers and resolve whatever issues they have.
There are also quite a number of 5 star ratings, and those users love the fact that this unit doesn’t take up a lot of room in the kitchen and is very easy to use. They have been very successful at sealing all sorts of foods for everyday storage needs or sous vide cooking, and some have even found that with a little experience it’s possible to use a reasonable amount of liquid marinade and still get a good tight seal.(Back to Top)

SousVide Supreme Vacuum Sealer Review: Summary
Whether you’ll be happy with the SousVide Supreme Vacuum Sealer may depend on your expectations. This particular model is not designed for sealing external containers, and it also doesn’t include the convenience of a bag cutter or internal roll storage – yet it costs as much as models that do have such features. However, its advantages are its compact size and simple, user friendly controls. If your main purpose will be for using pouches or bag rolls to package foods for sous vide cooking or for longer storage life, then this model may meet your needs.

What are your other options?
Before you buy, you may want to compare to the FoodSaver V3240, which sells for almost the same price but has built in features that make it a much more versatile machine.
For more options see other channel type models in our Vacuum Sealer Comparison Charts.
A chamber vacuum sealer will cost you a lot more ($650 and up), but serious users may want to consider the investment, especially if packaging liquid foods is a high priority. SousVide does not make its own brand of chamber vacuum sealer, but on their website they sell the VacMaster VP112S. For more information:
